about me

"...but it's hard to stay mad when there's so much beauty
in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once"

- AMERICAN BEAUTY
Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a 21-year-old college student inching my way towards a degree in journalism. I grew up in a small town in northwest Ohio and spent twelve years in its equally small Catholic school system, I went to camp for ten summers, and I spent six months studying abroad in Sydney, Australia; whatever you think of me, one of those environments is to thank/blame.

Little-known fact: I am stronger than a Stegosaurus.

I'm a dedicated Mac user and I take my coffee with two cream, two sugar. Sports never captured my attention, but oh, how I love entertainment. I'm particularly drawn to television, and by extension it's probably the area in which I feel most qualified to offer my opinion, but I also have mad love for musical theatre. Other interests include the color yellow, traveling, citrus-scented candles, American history, ice cream, autumn, blogging (obviously), and spending time with my friends and family. Favorites: School of Rock, Bon Iver, Kate Winslet, New York, It's A Wonderful Life, anything written by Mark Zusak, The Wire, Sufjan Stevens, Ben Folds, The Office, Little Miss Sunshine, "The Great Gatsby", Tina Fey, and the first three and a half seasons of The West Wing.

"When I get sad I stop being sad and I be
awesome instead. True story."
- BARNEY STINSON, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

I'm an amateur photographer and videographer. I'm learning to speak Italian and play the ukulele. I love my life, and I can't wait to see what happens next. Questions, comments, concerns, free stuff? Email me at laura (at) ohonestly dot org.

I'm one of four student columnists at The Courier in Findlay, OH, a gig I've had for over a year. I've worked as an intern at Yahoo!Xtra's Sydney, Australia office, and as the blogs section editor for Speakeasy Magazine. I have experience in restaurants and AM radio, as a camp counselor, a receptionist, and as a personal assistant. I have a wide range of interests and skills, and I believe that my positive attitude and commitment to innovation and quality make me a valuable employee.
